How to Make Your Room Look More Elegant

Dearest Lovelies,
If you are now at that time in your life when a pink mermaid themed room just isn't you anymore, here are some ways to get your room looking more elegant.

 1. Colorless Christmas lights: okay, we know this sounds tacky but once they are up they give off a "French cafe at night" sort of feel.

2. Antique pictures: get some frames and print out some cool pictures. Dip the pictures in coffee and put stones (I used coins) on the corners so that it doesn't curl. Let it dry and put it in the frame!

3. Hang up your jewelry: go to your nearest Claires or Urban Outfitters, get something cute to hang your jewelry on and throw some necklaces on that sucker! Note: this is less effective if all of your jewelry is pink and orange.

4. Find a place for the twelve year old you: remember those bunny figurines you used to collect a million years ago? Well they don't belong on full display anymore. Find a nice shoe box, put those little cuties in there and put them at the back of your closet.

5. Take down that "PLEASE KNOCK!!!" sign: if you are over the age of ten you know that no one knocks before entering your room and no one will ever knock. So it's time for that sign to flutter into the trash bin.

6. Do not try to cram all of your interests onto your walls, this isn't Facebook: for example, I love Batman, Captain America, Paris, Audrey Hepburn, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and Coldplay. Does this mean I am going to have fifty different posters on my walls proclaiming how much I love these things? NO. Pick no more than two and go with that for an overall theme. I picked Paris and Audrey Hepburn (mostly because a Batman/My Little Pony room would be more than a little odd.)

7. PAINT YOUR WALLS: I know this one takes more time, energy, and money, but believe me, when your room goes from bright orange to a warm brown, it makes a WORLD of a difference. Colors I suggest are tan, dark-ish brown, and maybe even a crimson accent wall if you're daring.

   Stay Lovely, Emily Skye
